Not being able to reconcile that particular mindset with the idea of living a fulfilling life, change is required. The sidebar provides an overview of the changes taking place on this website, beginning with the BLOG NAME change. It's really an expansion. I now have two blogs. I am known in some circles as one that reads a lot and asks a lot of questions, hence the original title found by following the "I'm Just Asking" link.
That is not going to cease, I will continue to pose questions in order to stir up creativity and begin numerous series of great dialogue. But I am going to do more than monologue. Let's call them compelling catalysts, stirring us to action. Have I experienced a spiritual awakening? Yes, that is an ongoing occurrence. I expect to have more in the days, weeks and months to come. This is what happens when one wakes up. Think of it as a social community awakening - the part of the story where I use my voice and the rest of me to allow God to speak and demonstrate His desires and focus for OTHERS. HE likes doing that.
The changes that will occur here are not quick, fast or rushed. What I expect to manifest is an emergence of love, compassion and mercy expressed verbally and with deliberate execution. It has been said that actions speak louder than words. In the book of James, chapter 2 it is expressed this way, "...faith without works [corresponding actions] is dead [a corpse]. He also takes this position, "....I will show you my faith by my works." Still another way to put it is, "Talk is cheap."
We will discuss human sex trafficking, child sex trafficking, prostitution, and other horrific acts here. But remember, talk is cheap, and actions speak loudly, so we will do more than talk. Slavery doesn't give a rip about color. It's about who is easiest to victimize. To the pimps and traders, the value of a human life is reduced to dollars and cents. "How much can I get for selling this woman, this man, this child?"
How galling that is to write, but it exists and is actually the discussion that precedes innumerable transactions.
Every. Single. Day. All. Over. The. World.
It gets worse than that, and trust me, we will talk about it, and learn what we can do to end it.
I have described myself as a 21st century abolitionist and warrior. But what does that mean? What exactly does a 21st century abolitionist do? Different individuals and groups do different things. My defining will evolve and be demonstrated in the coming months through discovery and action.
The short answer: Whatever needs doing in the fight to end the victimization and slavery of human beings in this 21st century. But this goes further for me.
There are apathetic and purposely blind mindsets that religious tradition, societal mores and ugly, paralyzing fear continually perpetuate to intimidate individuals from speaking out. The emphasis is on fear. Fear of reprisal, fear of exposure and fear of loss (relationships, status, money, money, and more money) just to name a few. Thus fear is an elusive foe that must be identified and defeated.
Let's face it, I'm not looking for popularity. If I were, controversial topics would not be on my agenda. I'm also not looking to offend anyone. I'm writing about what is offensive to God, and abhorrent to many who have lost sons, daughters, husbands, wives, friends or have become lost.
When it comes to caring for our fellow man (woman or child), there is great risk involved. When you dare to do more than throw a few dollars and a "God bless you" out of the window at the man or woman with a child and a dog and a sign at the nearest freeway exit, you have really changed the direction of your life. Did you get that?
By the way, when they fail to be a familiar sight anymore, do you ever wonder where they have gone?
No doubt whatsoever, I am a little edgy. So instead of simply asking questions, I want to help find the answers that will enable us to be change agents in this world. I need the help too. I'm crying, over some of the things that I see; but I'm not frustrated or feeling helpless. This is NOT about little ole me. It is about responding to the call to become the person I was put in this earth to be. A woman that spends her life reaching out to OTHERS.
You see, I know my value. I know yours too. It is blood. Not just any blood, but the joyously shed Blood of Yeshua (Jesus Christ). His Blood is the equalizer for all human life. We are worth BLOOD to God. Everyone is, and that is what some do not know or believe.
And so topics will become grittier. Yes, I'll still cover trends, current events, and books; but we are also going to conduct a few interviews, query the spiritual side of apathy and provide a bit of social commentary on hot and hotter topics. I'm not touching every issue, just the ones that resonate within my spirit on the "I've got to DO something" level.
I look forward to hosting some guest bloggers that are already speaking out on social injustice and changing the world around them.
You can read the statement in the column to the right, but I'll paraphrase here. I believe that through internal self-investigation and self-examination, the hardness of our hearts can and should be pierced. By looking at the needs of others, we will embark upon the journey to discover the numerous opportunities and ways we can make a difference in our local and global communities. Thus we will make a difference in the lives of a lot of people. Do YOU want to do that?
Coming this month: A new and ever-improving RESOURCE page of public and nonprofit agencies, ministries, organizations, and individuals that pour their life's blood into making conditions and situations better for OTHERS. We will start locally (Northern California), but by the end of 2016 I would like to see it expand to a national referral page. Next, we'll go global. H-E-L-P!
That means I'll be on the lookout for referrals and commentaries from those of you who take the time to read these words. I'll be upfront about the vision in the next post. That will be the initial inception of the RESOURCE page, and yes, there are more surveys to come.
I'm a writer, reader, book influencer and ordained minister. I am a citizen of earth and of the Kingdom of God. Words matter to me, and I am determined to use them on behalf of OTHERS (hence the ALL CAPS emphasis).
I love Yeshua Ha' Mashiach (Jesus Christ, The Messiah), Israel, the Jewish people, this wonderful country called America, my family, peeps...and you!
Quick question: What do you think about what I've said thus far? You can direct your comments to me here.
Thanks for coming by. I pray you'll stop in often. Your input is appreciated, because I'm NOT Just Asking!
